Food insecurity is an extremely highlighted issue during COVID-19. Need for food is up 40% since the pandemic began. To practice social distancing yet still serve our community, UGA Food2Kids and Shop With A Bulldawg decided to work together for a third time to create a university-wide fundraiser in support of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia in its fight against food insecurity. This fundraiser runs from April 4-22.

In addition to the fundraiser, we will hold a Summer Drive of supplies for the children to prepare for the next school year, the essentials for summer in Athens, and some fun!

We will end the fundraiser with our very own student-sponsored Mobile Pantry and Spring Carnival at First Baptist Church on APRIL 30 where families receive perishable and non-perishable food, and their children also receive summer fun and school supplies.

Where is the money going?

All of the fundraised money will be going toward sponsoring the mobile pantry (food and school supplies), with excess given as a direct donation to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.

What are we collecting for the Summer Supplies Drive?

Donations can include, but are not limited to: small notebooks, pens, pencils, flip flops, calculators, toy magnets, kinetic sand, pump rockets, Orbeez, Play Dough, marbles, and bubbles.

What is a mobile pantry?

A mobile pantry is the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia's way to serve hundreds of families all at once through a direct "farmer's market" style distribution format. They use a box truck to supply large quantities of food to about 300 families (which equals about 12,000 meals!).

What is the Spring Carnival?

This year's spring carnival is an additional feature to the mobile pantry and at no cost to participants! It’s an opportunity for families to enjoy some activities and food at multiple booths hosted by UGA organizations and our Bulldawgs Against Hunger team.

In 2021, Bulldawgs Against Hunger had the opportunity to take a more hands-on approach to our service with a mobile pantry. At this event, we were able to feed over 150 families and provide 250 school/summer supplies bags.

We also raised a total of 16,164 meals for the community of Athens. Take a look at what we did in 2021 HERE to see what you can expect from this year's fundraiser.

After the world went into lockdown, we knew that food insecurity was still an extremely prevalent issue with an estimated 10.6-17.1 million more people experiencing food insecurity due to the pandemic.

That's why we started our 3-week long, university-wide fundraiser to support the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Take a look at what we did in 2020 HERE.
